Re: witch one?

I had a rem 700 30/06 re-barrelled it to 7mm rem mag. There is no way I would go back!
The 7mm mag will get it done so much easier, better velocity, better BC, way less windage.
My longest shot with the 30/06 was 475 yds, dropped the stag but it got up and I never saw it again, no blood trail nothing. Searched for hours with my dog. no-luck.
With my 7mm mag and 162 a-max or 168 berger I have taken numerous game (deer sized) from 358 yd to 638 yds and never lost an animal. I use the 160 accubond inside 300 yds, it works well.

Go with the 7mm mag and don't look back.

Stu.

I am pretty sure there is no such thing as a 160 Balistic tip. There is 165 gr in .308 and a 150 grain in the 7mm. I WISH there was a 160 + gr balistic tip in .284!!!

A 160 Accu Bond will work better.
So far the 7mm RM has been all the hammer I need for deer and elk at medium ranges (500 to 700 yds).

Re: witch one?

I agree with the others, 7Mag. I use the 150gn Ballistic Tip and would not hesitate to unleash it on a deer at even further distances than you discussed. I've shot this bullet from day one (15 years ago) and know it intimately. There is currently only a 140 and 160gn AccuBond for the 7mm. The Ballistic Tip's can be had in 120, 140 and 150. JohnnyK.

Re: witch one?

Kind of off topic, but....with all of the big boomer 7mm's out there....don't you think a 160+ gr NBT would sell. I would buy them in a heartbeat!!!!
