What's btw the 338 Edge and 338 Allen Magnum?

The 338Lapua Imp, or Allen xpress which is an Imp version, has almost identical case capacity as the 338x378wby, the weatherby radious is very effective, however the case life of the Lapua brass when loaded to the max is much better, CIP test 338 lapua brass to 70k psi. With a 30" barrel either one is capable of 3200fps with the right throat design and Retumbo or Ramshot Magnum, but as I said the Lapua will have better case life and feed from a shorter magazine. At this point you are at your extreme limits and will have to move to a cheytac/Gibbs case.

I wish Shawn Carlock gave more ballistic detail for his 338 Edge +P. I've searched quite a bit for it, but am not finding a lot of info. It seems many folks are more interested in the chamber blueprint with a complete dimension work-up (with possibly not the fairest of intentions.....).

Otherwise, it seems the 338 Lapua AI derivative chamberings are about the only other way to get at 3,100-3,200fps with a 300grn pill.

As an aside, i'd generally want to stay at about 30" finished bbl length so this would put a significant strain on my goal. Maybe the 338 AM is the only way to achieve what i was initially thinking....

fmajor .To put it plainly "There's no free lunch here ". For what you want to achieve it either cost money to do it with a short barrel life with or be conservative on the distance/velocity with a little longer barrel life .
