What do you yall think.
I have a chance to trade a 22-250 Remington 700 SPS for a Weatherby Vanguard 257 weatherby mag. I have had the 700 for a couple of years and had intended on having it rechambered to a 22-243 but its a 1-14 twist so in order to take advantage of the heavier bullets i would have to get another barrel anyway do you think its a good trade. Let me know thanks.

Re: What do you yall think.
Personally I would rebarrel the current rifle unless you really want a Weatherby... which I can't blame you for that. I think you have a great platform to build off of. In my opinion, I would hold out for the Mark V and build a great long range rifle. The other factor is that there are better bullets for the .224 caliber than the .257 caliber for long range shooting.

I agree with Tank. Depending on the model, those Weatherby's can be had for $399. Not saying your 700 was a bank breaker, but I would rather build on the Remmy. I like the amount of aftermarket items available for the 700. Just my opinion.

You are probably looking at approx. $500.00 to rebarrel your Remington and that would be with a great quality barrel. The Weatherby would not have a similar quality of barrel on it for $500.00 :-)

Re: What do you yall think.
Somehow I knew you guys were gonna say stay with the 700 BUT I am leaning toward going for the 257. I don't have a 25 caliber yet and I already have a 250

Re: What do you yall think.
I have to disagree that the 700 would be a better platform to build from than the Vanguard. The Vanguard is a Howa action and IMO it's a better action than the the 700. I have both and the Howa (actually a S&W M1500) is a smoother action and is very well built. I like it's built-in recoil lug also.
Just my $,02

I keep forgetting that they use the Howa action. So the Vanguard would definitely be one to consider. I know they have after market parts to fit that action and rifle.
