Struggling with load for .243win using 80Grain Berger Varmint

Hiya Guys,

I have been doing some load testing and want to generate a load for my .243 using 80grain Berger Varmint Bullets.

Yesterday I made 27 bullets up with Varying loads of H414 from 42>>>46grains of H414.

I managed to get 2 tight spots at 42.5 grains and 46 grains and they were really good. The 42,5 grains gave approx .6" at 200yds and the 46grains gave a one hole group at the same range.

To prove the load today I made up 9 bullets of each and shot them in 3x3 shot groups and the groups went from good to bad to good to awful.

The cases were new Lapua cases, the primers were fed210m's the bullets were seated 10 thou back from the lands and the rifle is a Tikka T3 Super Varmint with a 1 in 10 ywist barrel.

Whats going wrong ???

Can you recommend to me a load that will get me tight groups in my rifle using the 80grain berger pills ???

I am considering Varget and H4350 ???

how clean was your rifle ? did you clean it after the 27 rounds ?

did you shoot and let cool or run it hot ?

I use H4831SC and H4350 with lots of luck in my 6mm Rem. and 243 Win. might want to give them a try.

Do you use 80 grain Berger Bullets with it and what sort of accuracy do you get with these powders over 200-300yds ???

    I shoot 88 bergers in mine and get real small groups ( .1 .2 .3 ) with varget 38.0 and I-4064 37.5 to 38.5 . either br-2 or 210m primers. have not tried h-4350. what kind of .243?

H4350 (2209) is the go-to-powder for the .243 in Australia. Try from 43 grains and work up.

Edit: Your rifle may just not like that projectile.

Some barrels just don`t like somethings. Could be the powder, the bullet or even the primer. My .22-6mm just don`t like Mag Pro powder and it should work well according to the burn rate charts. Primers can make a difference, but usually not a great one. Seating depth can be critical in some guns. My 22-6mm and 6-284 both group best with about .010 of skid marks from the rifleing when chambered. Just keep tring.
