Notwithstanding the effectiveness of the SMK...
Why not stick with the 168 Berger?
If you consider it effective in your 7RM, why would it not be equally effective from your wife's 7-08? (minus a few hundred yards as would be expected from any given bullet when comparing those 2 cartridges)

I have killed a dozen elk with 168 smk and never had an issue from under 50 yards out to about 600 i have had good results using both a 308 and 7 mag
