Re: Shooting Glasses?

Since it's generally sunny here, I'm wearing glasses most of the time anyway. I have times when I don't wear them, but it's pretty rare and usually only when conditions are unfavorable......fogging, low light (unless I have my clear ones), etc.

Re: Shooting Glasses?

I had been shooting for many years, but never really though about wearing eye protections. I had few close encounters when I was walking in the woods, branches almost poked my eyes.

I'm going to buy a shooting glasses and start to wear them whenever I go to the shooting range or hunting.

Re: Shooting Glasses?

I always wear them at the range but never while hunting. I guess I should wear them all the time.

Re: Shooting Glasses?

I always use prescription glasses, and have been saved many times by them, not only in the field, also in the operating room!!!
For big game hunting and rifle shooting I use my regular prescription glasses. For upland game hunting and while using the shotgun I use specially designed shooting glasses. I used to shoot IPSC pistol competition, and wearing protection glasses was obligatory, which was a good way of getting used to shoot all the time with glasses.
It is better to prevent than to say should have done it!!!

Re: Shooting Glasses?

I wore prescription glasses for 43 years. At age 47 I had the refractive laser surgery done. My vision, at approximately 4 feet and out, is 20-10. It's in close that I lack the ability to focus clearly (an age thing doncha know). I've been looking for one of the opthomologists who are shooters who make prescription shooting glasses. What I really need are bi-focal shooting glasses. I just need a small portion of the lens that is a +2 so I can focus on the front sight. When I adjust scopes and binoculars now, I rarely move the diopter adjustment - it depends on the glass.

Anyone know of a eye-doc who is also a shooter? I've seen one advertised on the boards every couple of years.

Re: Shooting Glasses?

I am an eye doc and a shooter. I would recommend wearing shooting glasses everytime you shoot. It's not worth the risk of damaging or loosing an eye. Personally, I think the protection that prescription glasses provide is adequate but definitely not optimal. For those of you who are middle aged shooters and need bifocals for near vision, there are no lenses that can give you the best of both worlds (clear distance and near vision).

Re: Shooting Glasses?

I use the Decot Hy-Wyd shooting glasses, I just change the lens with a corrective one for shooting standing where I hold the handgun closer and with the help of a adj Merrit peep I stick on my glasses, I can see the rear site ;-)
