Re: Shooting drops with the 338AM

AJ,

Those shoes look like Sketchers?

Good shooting. Yep, save that barrel. My poor old 270 AM may be on its last leg. I'll know as soon as my powder order gets here. If I'm still in this area when the "new" one is finished we'll have to get together to see how the 375 compares to the 338.

Yep, you know your shoes!

What are you going to do with the 270 once the barrel goes away? A new 270AM barrel?

Absolutely have to get together.

AJ

Nice shooting my friend. That rig sure shoots flat !

That gun of yours is a work of art.

If someday it starts talking back to you and arguing all the time you could always send her DOWN UNDER ! I'll treat her right !

Keep it up mate !

Re: Shooting drops with the 338AM

What brass are you guys using for the 338 Allen now. How many firings are you getting in the 3250 fps zone?

Thanks,
John

Re: Shooting drops with the 338AM

Not trying to speak for anyone but I believe all of my customers are shooting Jamison brass. Its not as good as the old TTI brass but its available and it does very well as long as you really do not hot rod it.

I also have Jamison make my brass with the correct headstamps in 338 Allen Magnum and 375 Allen Magnum and have them make it to slightly different specs then their standard 375 and 408 Chey Tac brass. THese differences offer a bit longer brass life, nothing dramatic but there is some difference.

In a 32" barrel or longer, 3250 fps should be a relatively mild load and we are seeing very good case life, at least 5-6 firings. In fact many are reporting the ability to push over 3300 fps and some are going up to 3400 fps with decent case life.

I generally load to around 3275 to 3300 fps and leave it there. Still a solid 300 fps over the next closest conventional 338 magnum and great case life as well as great consistancy and accuracy.

The old TTI cases would take +3400 fps and were very similiar to 338 Lapua cases as far as strength. They were great cases, sadly, they are a thing of the past and we have to use what we have. Jamison put alot of work into making their brass better and they did a good job. It is solid brass and shoots very well.

Re: Shooting drops with the 338AM

I am pretty sure I can still get TTI brass. I just checked and all my 408 brass is TTI. At 3350-3400 fps how many firings are we looking at with the TTI stuff?
