Savage tactical / longrange stock

I have been looking for a long range stock for my new Savage model 16 7wsm.

I have done the load workups and changed out the trigger and created a really good shooter. 1/2 groups at 200 yards are common. This cheapo shoots better than most of my custom barreled really expensive rifles.

The factory plastic stock is not comfortable in a lot of field positions.

Any one have any recommendations for a good stock for a reasonable price?

Bell and Carlson medalist if you want reasonable stock for around $250

you can add a Karsten cheek piece for another $75

the top picture is a savage(action and stock) I sold to a member on this site. If you don't like the finishes available you can pay for it to be hydro-dipped. My other experience is with a Mcmillan but they are double the cost(but worth every penny).

Here are a couple of options for a Savage Model 16 WSM:

This Stockade Hunting Sporter model is more of a sporter stock, but Stockade does make a nice tactical stock too, link: Stocks ....

or you could try one of these Choate tactical stocks which will take up to a straight taper barrel I think:

I am doing a build on the Choate tactical now, the action is out being timed and trued and the barrel will be here in about a month ...

HS Precison is making short action Savage stocks now to (finally):

    H-S Precision Pro-Series 2000 Savage 10FP / 12 Target / Varmint / Tactical / Single Shot & Repeater Stocks PSV102/106/118

    H-S Precision Pro-Series M24 Vertical Grip Varmint Tactical Savage 10FP / 12 BBC Stocks - PST101/114

Sharp Shooter Supply has nice laminated benchrest / long range stocks for Savages:

Sharp Shooter Supply - The Savage Specialists

And I am sure Joel Russo (do a search) can make you about any type of laminated stock you want too ...

If you have a right hand short action, that B&C Medalist is tough to beat.

I also like the Stockades. Here's my Pdog/Tactical:

    Thanks for the great help.
    I like the options.
I will post a picture when I get it put together.
This thing really shoots. This is my first Savage and I am really impressed. I have a couple Remington 700's that shoot pretty good but I have a lot of time and money in them to get them consistently in the 1/2" 3 shot group at 100 yards.
The Savage took 1 range trip and 15 rounds to find a great load.
    Thanks for your help.

I just got back from the range shooting my Model 12 270WSM with a new Medalist and it was wayyy better than the factory stock. It shot better @ 1000yds than it has previously at 450yds. I can't get over how it changed the recoil, I can spot hits even @ 300yds that I couldn't @ 750yds. I am very impressed with the Medalist, I found it very easy to get a consistant grip and cheek weld. The action and barrel dropped in perfect and everything is as it should be, I almost hate to skim bed it, it fits so nice.

Nice rifle geargrinder! What caliber and barrel specs? Also is that stock something you had to wait on? Also is that a tactical bolt if so where did you find that?
