Re: Pics of Berger Bullets NOT Performing????

Thank you Len.
I stopped monitoring this thread a few days ago, when it started downhill. Sorry to see it has not corrected it's self yet.
This thread started out about bullets, and has had some very qualified people sharing real, on the ground experience. You don't get that very often, or on too many other sites I have visited. Having the head man at Berger participate is an outstanding testament to Berger's commitment to their products and customers.
Thank you Eric!
This thread has value men, let's use it to everyone's benefit. Leave the egos at the door.

Re: Pics of Berger Bullets NOT Performing????

just read this and i cant wait to find out results. i reloaded 168 berger for my stw and 140 for my wifes 7mm08 and i shelfed my stw cause of the reports on bergers not performing my wife never had chance to shoot a deer this year so we dont have results on game. but im gonna test them on newspaper and other tests cause i hate tracking game. .270 130g nosler ct drt on many of deer if results are good i hope my wife will get a buck with the bergers

on another note my seating dies leave the circle mark on the bullets when i seat them. i dont believe this closed the tip but should i replace the dies. i currently use rcbs dies and they are brand new as i bought both these guns this year and didnt have dies

Re: Pics of Berger Bullets NOT Performing????

Chuck the RCBS seating stem into a drill and apply emery cloth or some sand paper to the leading edge to take the sharp edge off the face of the seating stem where it contacts the bullet. This will eliminate the ring mark on the bullets by increasing the surface area of contact where the stem contacts the bullets. Unless you're applying undue force (a LOT of force) to seat the bullets, the seating stem won't deform the bullet jacket during the bullet seating operation. If it takes so much force to seat the bullets that the bullet jacket is deformed, then something's wrong with your neck sizing die or neck expanding mandrel. Some other piece of reloading equipment needs to be replaced or tweaked to reduce bullet seating force.

Re: Pics of Berger Bullets NOT Performing????

i dont have to use force to seat my bullets. i am new to reloading but they just leave a slight ring on the bergers not all of them. none that ever have a burr just seen the ring mentioned and thought id comment so i dont hinder bullet performance

i will do as u suggest thank you im always open to instruction and ways to improve my skills

i checked my 7mm08 loaded shells four you could not put a pin in the hollow point one would with pressure and five did easily. loaded some for my stw and out of six bullets three werent hollow. i loaded the three good ones and and rechecked my press did not close them. i noticed the tips are not uniform on alot of them.
