Ahh, I remember those days. 400 gr. Speer Flat Point at 2450 fps and chucks! All apologies for the high-jack and reminiscing.

In .458 I made some custom 275 grain hollow points out of a box of 510 grain round nose. I got them to go 3000 fps. They just tear apart coyotes and Marmots. Oh, it's a Ruger #1 with a 26 inch bull barrel.

I had to think of something to do with it other than collect dust. Here in the lower 48 I've got a couple of mule deer with the Barnes X 405 grain
.270 Ackley improved 29 inch 1.250 dia. target barrel 7mm STW 28 inch 1.250 target barrel. I also love my .458 mag for varmints and the biggest game in the world.

It is interesting that you say that. I have test teh 57.1gn load before without moly and it grouped around 2" @100yds. Now with moly 57.1gn is shooting good at 350yds. Where 54.7gn naked was shooting 1/4" @100. But that does seem like a big jump in powder to hit a node.

I guess my best bet is load up the 54.7gn and 57.1gn about 10 per and shoot out at 600yds or so. And see what happens.
