Newbie Please help

I just bought my first rifle a savage model 110 300 win mag with accu trigger. I want to know what is a good scope to get me started. I have never really shot any long distance and right now i would consider 500 yards far. I want a scope that doesnt cost a lot under $350 if possible. I also heard that buying a new stock and can help reduce recoil and make it more accurate is this true? If so what stock should i go with?

For what your looking to do (500 yds on $350) Id say Nikon 4.5x14x40mm s/f with the BDC reticle. Its not ''absolutely perfect'' as no ''Hold over'' reticles are, but with a 300win mag youll be right in there. That way you only have to dial for the wind. I own Burris, Nikon, Leupold, and I will venture to say for the money Nikon Buckmaster is a great scope. Burris (IMO) is tougher, but costs just a bit more.

As for the Savage questions, theres a bunch of Savage fans here who'll jump in shortly to help you out. If you want to keep your rifle the way it is Id highly recomend Limbsaver recoil pads if they make them for your rifle.

thanks a lot i really like the millet scope. It will hold up to the 300 win mag? I found one for $291 shipped should i just get this one?

Welcome to LRH!! I would set it into a stock by Stockade gun stocks, for a long action they would be you best choice and if you a little handy you can buy it unfinished for cheap, there is a wait to get it but it's worth it. Bed the action, put a 20MOA rail on it up front cause you will need it eventually.
With the scope, I have been using a WOtac 4-14 by Sightwonders, the reticule is set out in 2MOA graduations, super rugged, excellent turrets, I have used both the Nikon and the WOtac next to each other and the WOtac is far better over all for long range shooting and it is very well priced!

My vote is for the burris fullfield II 4.5x-14x-42mm it is the scope that got me started with the hole LRH thing i had it on my .270 win and could ring steel out to 600 yards no problem.

+_1 I love that scope, I just looked up the price in Cabellas Shooting Catalogue, $349!! cool!!
