As for the brake, I have a shrewd precision varmit brake on my .220 swift. Deafening is the only word I have for it. If you don't need ear protection for a braked rifle, you are probably hard of hearing anyways.

I would hold that the opposite is true. If you consider the Shrewd to be deafening you must be extremely hyper sensitive. As long as you are behind the gun when it is fired it's a very minor rapport. Heck even my wife who is very blast sensitive loves to shoot the .260 which wears one.
