Most accurate 30-06 bullet for 1:10 twist
My buddy just bought a Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 and we want opinions on what hunting factory ammo would be most accurate out to 500 yards. the gun has a 26 inch barrell 1:10 twist. Any input would be very useful before we go to the range.

Well considering I shot 110grn out of my 308 w/ a 1:10 twist, I would think the 30-06 will handle anything from 110 to 240. But for practicality's sake, I would suggest anything from 168 to 190 grain. Seeing as you are shooting factory ammo, I think you are going to find you will have to find several different brands and weights to see what it likes best. Look for things like "Trophy bonded", "SST", "Partition", "Soft Point Boat Tail", "Accu-Tip".

Absolutely. You might try 5 ammo types and have one that works well. Those that group reasonably at 100 yards should then be confirmed at 200. If they group poorly at 100 then they're out of the running. Every rifle is different as to which ammo types it does - or does not - like.
FYI, most Vanguards shoot very well, but if for some reason yours does not then think seriously about swapping on a better stock than the factory plastic one. My Vanguard likes cheap ammo and expensive ammo, so I guess I'm lucky in that regard.

As stated above, factory ammo is hit or miss. Your rifle may like anything you feed it. Or, you might have to purchase several complete boxes of ammo to find the right load.
1:10 twist should be good for up to 220gr +/-

The Blue Boxed Federal Power Shoks are very forgiving or universally good. They have killed a lot of game even though they are not the latest technology to come down the pike.
They were only slightly outperformed by premium bullet hand loads in my rig.
