Mischambered barrel?

Hey fellas, Went to build some reloads for my 25-06 rebarreled with a kreiger barrel. went to check the overall length with berger 115gr bullets.
Man this thing is 3.540 I can't see why they would possibly throat it that deep. Heck the boat tail of the bullet is not even in the neck of the brass. What's up with this and can it be fixed? Thank's, Brad

Re: Mischambered barrel?

Wow! It could probably be cut and set back and rechambered.

Whomever did the finish work on it owes you some work and/or a new barrel.

+1

Both 25-06's I've owned had plenty of bullet in the neck when it was also in the lands. Even after a couple thousand rounds in one of them! And I'm not even talking VLD's, just normal hunting bullets like the 115 Nosler Ballistic Tip.

Something done got goofy IMO.

Re: Mischambered barrel?

I knew someting was up. I was shooting the HSM rounds that are loaded with vld's and they were tight in my old barrel but had plenty of room in the new barrel. Brad

Re: Mischambered barrel?

Wildrose, What do you mean by the finish work? I thought this would of been done by kreiger.
Is there a way to find industry standard for oal? Believe I'm going to call gunsmith today that rebuilt this for me but, don't know what he can do now because taking the oldest on youth hunt this weekend then my bear hunt starts monday and me and the rifle will be tied up all month. I've ended up setting my berger reloads coal at 3.340 (longest I could make them just to fit in the magazine)and I'm getting decent groups with rifle at 100 yds ( still better than the best factory loads)especially with the lowest velocities(average 2860) but have noticed that velocities are all over ther scale. could this be caused by the bullet being made so long and also having to jump so far to get to the lands? Thank's, Brad
