Re: Matrix 165 gr bullet performed perfect

Shortmag is right on with the brass, I use two kinda of brass for my 270 WSM and that is Norma and Remington, after trying them all these are the only two worth using IMO. I us the Remington for hammering out loads and for pushing pressure and velocity and varmint rounds, I use the Norma for precision long range shooting. I run the Matrix at 3060 fps in the Norma and 3043 in the Rem with the same load which is max in the Norma and a couple grains of max in the Rem cases.

The Norma is load and shoot brass and the neck tension stays very consistent, the Rem brass needs a little tune up and you have to stay on top of neck tension, Win brass just don't get it done!!

With the 165 Matrix and elk won't know the difference between 3065fps or 3000 fps, trust me!!!

Re: Matrix 165 gr bullet performed perfect

I was out at the range and shout the remaining two bullets of 68 gr of N570 and 165 Matrix in my 270 WSM with Winchester brass. The temperature was 70 degrees in Tucson, AZ, and the brass ejected without a problem. I appreciated the information about the remingtion brass. I am currently working with 60 cases of Nosler and will compare it to the Winchester brass. Also looking at .001 thousand neck tension compared to .002 neck tension.

I wonder if you meant Nosler, not Norma. Nosler brass is soft I heard. Depending on who you spoke to at McMillan, they might of mispoke? It happens...

You are correct I was using Norma brass that would not eject properly. I loaded the same amount of powder in a Winchester without the ejection problem.
