Look at this....
'ugly bastard'! My old '06 NRA Match Rifle I pulled out of it's match stock and pillar bedded into an old .458 Win Mag stock I had stuck back in my closet. Shoots like onto a 'house on fire'! Loves 53.6 grs. H4350 with Russian primers and 200 gr. Sierra HPBT Matchkings!

Shot this group with it a while back shortly after my pillar bed job. I called the 3 shots that are low; saw 'em when they went!

Re: Look at this....
+1 for the "Old '06". My first rifle was an 06' that my dad bought from who knows, for I'm sure, not more than $200 knowing him.
When I finally put it on paper, it wasn't very impresive. About 1.5 MOA with factory loads. Pillar bedded the original stock, and straightened out the bottom metal, that turned out to be horrobily bowed. Loaded up some some 200 SGK over IMR 4350 and she shoots .75 MOA all day out to 600+! And that is with the factory barrell!
Why the hell does anyone shoot anything else?

Why? Well...let's just say it's not 'glamorous' enough for the younger generation! But the fact still remains that it's won more NRA HP matches than any other cartridge and that includes the 1000 yard events! In today's world of cartridges, common thinking is that a cartridge is 'useless' if it doesn't have the powder capacity of a thermos jug and shoots bullets that travel in nanoseconds!! I really get a belly laugh out of those that state...."the 30/06 is great out to 400 yards"! I've taken bucks with the 03A3 at 500 yds. using the aperture sights and those bucks never knew what hit 'em!! And as for steel and paper.....it ain't even gettin started at 400 yards!!

That'd be a real nice rig if everything wasn't on the wrong side... .
Nice job.

People tend to forget the 03-A3 was racking up 1,000 yard kills long before the first magnums hit the market.
