Well your on the right track. I have shot the Lapua and it knocked our stand over at 1070yds. It was a little off balance. After 3 consecutive shots it rocked over. It was a 65lbs. plate. Pretty potent caliber. As for your action, it will require the bolt face to be opened up. Better make sure it can be opened up. Get a McMillian stock or a Manners stock. Thing will be a shooter. If your only going to focus on Whitetail then the 300WM or 7mm RM will do the trick. Both will even tip an elk at 1000yds. Size of caliber won't make up for shot placement.
