For coyotes you don't need a 338 and something lighter would be a better choice
in my opinion.
Look at the ballistic tables and I think you will see what I mean.
For ranges up to 1000 yrds I would recomend the 7mm RUM or one of its equivalent
wild cats.
This is one of the flatest shooting factory rounds available and with the wide choice
of bullets one of the best for wind drift.
If you don't mind belted cases the 7mm STW would also be a good choice because they
will push a 140gr bullet 3500+ ft/sec and the RUM will exceed 3600+ft/sec.
As for as scopes, any GOOD scope around 6.5x20x50 will work . Milldots or turrents are your
choice. I like both so I have fast holdover with the mill dot and when time is not an issue
I can crank in the the zero with the turrents.
