Re: Long range .30 caliber

Considering that long/heavy, high BC bullets are all the rage for shooting looongrange, the short action WSM's just ain't gonna do the job.

The 300WSM was originally developed for bullet weights of 180gr + less. You wouldn't find many 1,000yd shooters using that class of bullet.

On the other hand, if a long action receiver was set up for the WSM and the throat was set deep for the loong bullets, you might have a decent alternative to the 300 WM. However, I think the 300 WM would still produce better velocity with 200gr-240gr bullets.

Just my 2 cents & that's probably what its worth.

Re: Long range .30 caliber

I am new to this internet thing. I have ordered a rifle from Christenson Arms. It is the custom carbon one in 300 RUM. I am looking for comments on quality, good or bad. I would very much appreciate any input.

Everybody has to start sometime, Welcome to LRH

You have posted to an old post it is over 2 years old!
Also, it is not about your subject, So you might want to "start a post"
Or it is always good to do a "search" and see what is already out there.
Don't worry it's only the internet!! you cant mess it up.

Where you from?

Re: Long range .30 caliber

I am putting together the 300WSM and giving it a go. I look at targets all the time and across the board the best out of the box production rifle's moa is the WSM rounds. The effeciency of the case is as good as it gets. The short little fat bugger puts them downrange and close together over and over again for about two thirds the powder and twice the barrel life. Best of the West long range outfits are shooting the burger 175 , new bullet, in their 30 cal outfit. At 1200 yds it is still super sonic and 1000 lbs of energy.

Opinions are from the givers stand point and ultimatly it is your choice to do what you belive is best for you. Good luck and great groups.. Dave
