Considering that long/heavy, high BC bullets are all the rage for shooting looongrange, the short action WSM's just ain't gonna do the job.
The 300WSM was originally developed for bullet weights of 180gr + less. You wouldn't find many 1,000yd shooters using that class of bullet.
On the other hand, if a long action receiver was set up for the WSM and the throat was set deep for the loong bullets, you might have a decent alternative to the 300 WM. However, I think the 300 WM would still produce better velocity with 200gr-240gr bullets.
