That is what I'm going by and thus haven't tried them

I have something that works instead which will work well. I'll have more precise evidence when I get back home in March.

Re: Long Range .270 Build

I'm building a 270 stw at this very moment just for the matrix 165&175 bullets. I'm hoping to push the 165 around 3350 from a 28" bbl.

I'd figure you should have no problem with the velocity from a non-3 groove bore.

Re: Long Range .270 Build

I got a benchmark 9 twist on the way. Should be a pretty good combo for long range for deer and elk

Interesting!! You should have no issues getting that speed, I've ran them to 3220 fps in my WSM but it's not a good long term deal! I'm still toying with a hot rod and I'm thinking a 5R rifling in 1-10 twist and nitriding but that's a lot of coin to out run the WSM which will run in the mid 3100's if you can have accuracy with it as well.

That doesn't run up to being smart $ wise. It was a lot of years, before the chrono became available (paper screens) I shot lots of muley with a 130 gr Sierra loaded as the book said to 3100. Chrono'd years later @ just under 2900. What a major letdown. Found N-205 and immediately went to 3190.

Ya know, it made exactly no difference in harvest success. Go figure.....

If I had a WSM that shot as yours does I wouldn't budge an inch.

However, I have the investment in AM dies and stuff and pretty much hooked on a 1/2 moa potential @ 1200 (only a couple of targets and a few rogue rocks...so far. Plus that impressively short flight time.

I'm thinkin' 9 twist polygonal Pac Nor or Schneider if they make the 9 twist (I feel strongly for the 150-165 class bullets 8 twist is over kill) for the rebarrel.

Are you talking for a WSM or do you have the 270 AM? If the latter, what powder are you using?

I have one and just have not had time to play with it as much as I'd like. I have 500 of the Wildcat 169.5s and almost 16 pounds of WC872.
