I used to shoot a 6.5x47mm Lapua, which is ballistically very similar to a .260 rem. I shot and dropped an antelope at 670yards this year. Bullet performance was not good, but i believe with the correct bullet, .260 class chamberings are 800, maybe 900yard deer killers. For that kind of shot i would strongly recommend the 140gr A-max, as they have a solid reputation to open at low impact velocities.
For closer range, say out to 700yards, i would not hesitate to use something like the excellent 130gr Berger VLD.
