Not longrange by some standards but none the less a Berger kill.
If I have a tag leftover from firearms season I take the Lapua out to
shoot a doe during the antlerless portion.
The place I hunt I can set up on top of a hill and the deer come out between 250 and 600 yards(safely) into bean stubble. Wednesday afternoon I got all set up and waited to see if any doe were using the field. At 4:45 a single doe came out into the field, I ranged her and it was 478 yards. I entered the data into shooter on my phone, dialed the scope. I closed the bolt and sent the 300 grain Berger, after the the rifle recoiled I didn't see the deer in the field, so I got the binos out for a better look, she was laying in a small wash. I packed my stuff back to the truck and went to pick her up.
When I drove up to her there was something on her back.
After I was by the deer I ranged back to the shooting spot and it was 460 yards (I was ranging the timber not the deer). So I hit a little high and the bullet entered the deer expanded and upon exit the bullet appeared to suck the guts out of the exit hole. The deer never even twitched.
I should have taken more pictures, but here is the longest one of three does shot this last week. 401 yards. & RM shooting 168 gr hunting VLD's at 2875. Doe was DRT! Shot from the red tree by the bale yard. I meant to do a better job of documenting specifically for this purpose
Vegetarian ~ noun, Ancient Indian word for "poor hunter".
This is a good size doe for East Texas. This is the last weekend for antlerless and we are out of venison, so when she stepped out of the tree line it was time to go. 7RM pushing 168gr VLD Hunter, I would say that the bullet did its job. She did actually run about 25-30 yards before dropping which absolutely amazed me!
Location: winchester, Tennessee. very small rural town.
Re: Lets see your berger kills!
