I actually hit it at the base of the skull when the elk was bedded facing away. She didn't move much...

That is very good shooting. Isn't it what we are striving for????? I mean precision shooting. Placing a shot like that in the field is harder than some would be willing to try. I know it is messy, but if a shot like that is possible, and you have the ability why not?

I get people mad at me for taking 500+ yd shots that have cleanly killed elk and deer. Just cause they can't compriehend a persons ability to make such a shot doen't make it immposible. Being able to shoot better and further than everyone else is a awesome feeling.

7mm 168gr Classic hunter MV 2950. Shot was 1/4ing away and took out 4 ribs from about 50 yrds, he knew he was hit hard, didn't go far though.

The bottom of the right (offside lung)

Keep in mind the animals we shoot for food and display are not bullet proof. Contrary to popular belief, they bleed and die just like they did a hundred years ago. Being competent with a given rifle is far more important than impressive ballistics and poor shootability. High velocity misses never put a steak in the freezer.
