I was thinking that because I'm new at that also, but it seemed that every time I shot and had problems, I would wait and shoot more out of the same batch with no problems. I will be spending a lot of time the next few days looking at stress/ and heat issues. Thanks.

What are the ambient temps that you are shooting in?

Re: I need advice

Early morning temps around 65. Afternoon 85-89. I live in AZ at 5200 feet.
Now that you mention it, it seems to shoot better in the morning, maybe because it cools the barrel faster?

Yeah, I dont like shooting when it gets much warmer than 70. It would take forever for a barrel to coll down in those temps. There is another member from AZ (AZShooter) who has rigged up a CO2 device to quick cool his bore in 80+ weather.

Anyone try Reloader 17 yet?

Hey Michael,

I didn't give much thought to the reloading technique, since his first groups sound to be consistently the best. Possible, I guess, but I'll still lean towards the stress angle.

Re: I need advice

I have had issues with the bigger rifles shooting as it heats up in the afternoon.

I would bet that it if you wait 15 minutes between shots that is not enough time for the barrel to cool down enough.

Remember you are shooting a flame thrower. Every time you fire it heats the barrel more.
If there is a breeze blowing that will help to cool it off but if it is still you will need to wait longer.
Use a meat thermometer and put it in the barrel from the action end so you don't forget to take it out and see what the temperature does. Could be very surprising on how long it takes to cool down.
My opinion is that the bedding job is probably ok if done by a professional and you are dealing with a heat issue with that barrel. It just likes to be cool.
