It can.....And has been known to.
Few things that will help with longer barrel life. 1) don't get it too hot by shooting several rounds repeatedly. 2) be sure to break it in properly. 3) Have more than 1 gun that you like to shoot, so you aren't constantly pushing pills through 1 weapon.
When I go to the range, I usually shoot 10 rounds out of my high-powered guns tops. But not consistantly. If I want to blast-away, I pull out the LWRC M6, and have some fun, or shoot the pistols.
It's a great caliber, as long as you treat the gun right. Granted, it's a hot caliber, so the barrels might not last as long as some guns do....But I've had mine since 2003, and it's still shooting 1-hole groups @ 100 yards, even with cheap glass on top (for now). I plan on dropping a NightForce NXS 8-32x56 with MLR reticle on it someday.
