Hard to believe story...

...just had a fellow on another forum (unrelated to hunting) brag about shooting an elk at 1100meters with a 300 ultra-mag. I have not shot an ultra. I have shot a lot of long range guns...from 'Nam to Africa, to hunting in N. Mex, Co, etc. I would never attempt a shot like that. Just too many variables. Plus, where's the "hunting"? If he had a guide, I can't believe a guide would allow a client to take a shot at that range.
I'm about to jump on him, but, I thought maybe some of you may have dropped an elk at Looong range. Ideas?

Many on this forum have elk and deer at more than 1000yds. My best deer is just under 900 and my best elk is a paltry 520yds. Not all that big of a deal when you have the right equipment, conditions and practice.

Wheres the hunting? you ask. Well, how about this. Where's the hunting when you sit 50yds from a baitpile? To each his own. Its all about a clean humane kill, whether its with a long range rifle at 1000yds or a pointy stick at 3 feet!

Deepwater1, what is your flavor? Archery, Muzzleloading, rifle ? Tell us a little about yourself.

Just as with anybody else, simply congratulate the person and move on. Save yourself the headache of arguement. Eventually his lack of knowledge will show and people will realize his ignorance.
