Re: Had a great pleasure today...

The BSA has an arm called Venturing which provides for girls to participate.

Venturing

We were involved from many years when my daughter was younger. She won quite a few shooting contests against the boys. Just something to keep in mind as your own daughter grows older.

Man the standards for that merit badge have changed some sence I was a boy scout

Thanks for doing that Kirby I feel like I was there. A father in my troop did something similar when I was about 15.

You did a great thing.

Re: Had a great pleasure today...

Roy,

The only reason I went with the BR trigger was because the Chey Tac bottom metal would not allow the use of the bottom safety model of the standard Jewell trigger which I prefer as it has a much wider trigger pull range of adjustment.

In fact, I change the trigger pull spring out on the BR models to that I can get a trigger pull of around 1 lb. I personally have a hard time getting used to a 2-4 oz trigger, just need to "feel" the trigger a bit before it goes off. Just a mental thing but something I need to shoot well.

With any other bottom metal or trigger guard, I recommend the standard bottom safety Jewell.

A good 20x scope will be plenty for shooting out to a mile. Remember, the higher the power the more mirage will effect you. The group Dad and I comboed on was shot off 15x!! Its much more about quality then it is about shear magnification for long range precision.

Re: Had a great pleasure today...

ss7mm,

Surpisingly there is not much opportunity around here for the young folks to experience anything like this. You would think with all this wide open country and all the hunters around here it would be rather common but sadly it is not. When I can I try to give them a chance as often as I can.

I am sure I get more out of it then they do. My Dad was my scout leader for most of my scouting carreer and the scouts certainly helped me become who I am. I try to give back to them as much as I can.

Re: Had a great pleasure today...

BB,

There were supposed to be four young ladies come with the young men as well. I was really looking forward to them coming as I am always amazed at how well the young ladies pick up the shooting sports. Its truely one sport that they are full equals to men in in every way and in my opinion, superior in some ways.

Unfortunately, these four young ladies are also members of the local high school track team and the day for the shoot was on the same day as one of the track meets so they could not make it.

I wish they had made it, we need as many young ladies in the shooting sports as we can. I believe this is the only way for our sport to survive and grow is to get the ladies more involved.

Re: Had a great pleasure today...

Thanks for the kind words, I did nothing that any of us on here would not do when given the chance.

As far as the group we shot at 1 mile. I want to stress that I do not claim or expect this class of group to be the norm all the time by any means. Hell, I fully admitted sending several shots down range at the gong and never even making contact so its all dependant on shooting conditions and of course to some degree, a bit of luck as always.
