H414- Should I Be Using Magnum Primers ???

I have been using H414 on some home loads with some mixed results, I mentioned this whilst at Norman Clarkes (Local Top Draw Gunsmith) and was told I should be using Magnum primers on H414 as its a ball type powder.

Has anyone else in here had mixed bags using H414 without magnum primers ???

Can anyone recommend a primer they have had good reSults with on H414 ???

I use 414 in my 243, 260, and 7-08, all with standard 210's.

I have always used CCI 250s with H414 most loads in 243 and 25-06.

In a 243 Ackely, I use 200's. I tried 250's because of a hang-fire and the ES was all over the place. I went back to 200's and haven't had another hang-fire and nice ES again.

I've used CCI 200s in my 30-06; with good results in winter with a hottish load. When it gets above 32 degrees F, the powder gets too temperature sensitive so I switch to IMR 4831.

Is there a down side to using Magnum Primers for everything?
