...guess I need my LRH back

Sold my LRH rifle a while back thinking my .270 and her 30.06 would do all we need. Buuuut...

Just back from 9 tough days in the high country. Camped at 9380', very tough weather with driving snow, driving rain, 60mph winds, 9 F temps, and full moon on decrease. All I saw was elk tracks, 2 satellite bull tracks and prob half doz cow tracks. Not enough snow at 11380 to drive elk down tho. Wife got into the elk Fri and Sat morns at about 10600' but the two bulls she saw were too far for a confident shot( 520 and 700y). She says we need a lil more rifle than her Sav 30.06. My arthritic knees will no longer let me climb with her. The mtn back of our camper is elk haven, which we didnt discover til Thurs morn. She saw many cows also at 700y. Sat morn below me in the dark the cows were peeping( they talk all year) and two bulls below me were bugling in the dark ( yeah they don't just bugle in sunny warm monthlong stickthrower season) . By shooting light all were gone and had moved up nearer my wife who saw them at 700y.

So I guess I'll shop around and find another LRH and kiss the .270 gbye.

Elk know when you have the wrong tools to get them! I've been having the opposite problem, can't swing a 13lb LRH rifle in the timber very well

my gun would work for both of you. it only weighs 8.5 lbs, is less than 36" long, and can put a 225 gr 338 out at 3400.

Ok tale me about your rifle. How long is your barrel ? What stock ? What is your load ? You know everything.

Damn...I'm mighty proud to know that an '06 won't kill stuff out to 700 yards cuz I was doing that 30 years ago with a good M70 in that caliber!!

Might be able to get you hooked up with my Smith who builds imho the best on the planet. If you use him I will send him my reamers to make the dies as well. He is not the cheapest around but if you want a rifle built that is accurate to a fault and looks good he is the man.

PM if you are interested. All of mine sporters and competition rifles are brutally accurate.

My gun is a bolt action with a 28" finished Bartlein barrel, Holland radial port brake, MPI stock which will be replaced this winter with a laminated copy cut by Bruce Baer. well, actually cut by his wife. it's an Edge that i shoot 95 gr of MRP spitting 225 ttxs at 3250, but could be shot at 3400 before getting a sticky bolt. it's a bullpup that is less than 36" long and weighs about 8.5 lbs with scope. i'm sorry if this disappoints you but i don't know everything.
