Dave, you said it as well in a paragraph as I did in pages!

BB, the meat is tender! I'm sure the mother will survive the winter alone. I doubt the calf would have. I knew I was shooting a young cow. Didn't realize how young until they stood side by side. That cow stayed trying to coax the calf up until we were within fifty yards.

Thanks for the kind responses. It was an exceptional day. My daughter will have her first big game hunt this year. I am looking forward to the years ahead!
