Do the T/C Encore and 1,000 yards go together??

Like the title says. Will a T/C Encore be able to shot with enough precision. (All shooter mistakes aside) To be able to take Deer sized game @ 1,000 yards? Will it be constant @ 1,000 yards?

The gun would have a MGM 31" Barrel. AS I am quit sure the factory 28" barrel will lack what it takes.

Can it be made to shoot?? What will it take? If not what is lacking that would keep it from doing it?

Thanks for the help guys!

What caliber?

The first "target/long range" rig I had when I was a teenager was a TC encore with an MGM barrel in 6BR. I learned a lot with that rifle... They can be very accurate.

30-06 will be the round. It can do the job well. But can the gun do it? Thats what i want to know before I put 1000 plus into one.

I own an Encore Rifle & also a Contender Super 14 in 223 & 30/30AI. The Contender has impressed me a great deal for a Handgun & the ranges I use it. The Encore has failed to please, I do know some are quite accurate, but setting up a rifle for normal "for most people" ranges or even out to 600 or so is one thing, but setting up a rifle for 1000 yards is a whole different animal.

I believe the Encore is just not the right platform to give you good odds in winding up with a 1000yd. rifle, not saying it can't be done, but surely not the platform to try.

If I was starting from scratch right now with a new, non-custom rifle, I would go with Sav or Rem, most likely the new Rem 700 Long Range rifle since you can get it in 30-06 that you want and considering the stock. I saw one today for $689.00, you could get a good base, rings, skim bed & new trigger and still be in for about a Grand & then just get a scope.

I think this could curb alot of frustration, speaking from experience with both platforms!

Thanks for the information. This is what i am afraid of. I do not want to spend the money to find Out it will not performed as I would want it to.

I have heard to many bad things about them not being good at long range. I was hoping to have a single shot long range gun. If need be I will just use a bolt action of my choice and go from there.

Thanks again guys.

Re: Do the T/C Encore and 1,000 yards go together??

I just bought a MGM 6.5 Creedmoor barrel for my Encore. I am shooting Hornady Match 140 gr AMAX factory ammo. I haven't even completed barrel break in and it shoots between .75moa to .5 moa at 100 yards. It has held .75 moa to 300 yards so far. If the weather in Ohio will ever straighten out I will stretch it out to 1000 yards. The gun is bone stock otherwise.

And another thing I forgot to mention. The Encore is far more sensitive than a good bolt gun platform when it comes to the way you deploy it in the field. In other words, I like a rifle that is predictable when you go from a bench rest to improvised rest, then to a bipod, off of a back pack, whatever I need to do in the field or at the range. Again, the Encore is not the best platform for the various posibilities that in fact do occur.
Again, you are talking Deer sized game at 1000 yards, no biggie if you still have a good group but in a little different position on a gong, but a few inches too far back on a Deerbecause I did not notice my field rest and the Encore forearm did not mix, well that's why my Encore is in the safe during my hunts that could go long.
