Re: Coues Deer Results--as per Skreech request

Guys....I'm only slightly better with a rifle than with a computer. Could someone with more dexterity put the pics on the thread for all to enjoy (or ridicule)?

Blas....Yes, the hunt price is going up to around $4200 next year. I could have taken another buck for an additional $2K, and I seriously considered it as I had 4 additional days to hunt. We hunted the La Providencia ranch in the Sierra del Nido range around 1.5 hrs NW of Chihuahua City. We stayed in the the almost-completed headquarters hacienda where we had all the modern facilities--bed, showers, hot tap water. A cocinero fed us three squares each day. I can speak passable spanish, which greatly heightened the enjoyment of the experience. My guide Manuelito is educated in the US and spoke perfect english, but Rogelio--he of the unbelievable eyesight!--spoke none whatsoever. The cook spoke no english, as did around half the guides. This was not a problem as all of them were essentially perfect in their ability to score a buck on the hoof--they would write the estimated B&C score in the sand with an index finger. And they all spoke two critical phrases: "No Trophy" and "Trophy." I decided on Chihuahua rather than Sonora because American Airlines has a daily direct flight from DFW, my home, into Chihuahua City, making for a hassle-free trip. The outfitter seamlessly paved the way through the Mexican customs and military. Surprisingly, homeland security made my return through US customs far more troublesome than that in Mexico.

Congrats on the nice Coues.
They're the only animal I have ever hunted that "Got under my skin".
Good luck on next year's quest also!

Which hunt the other one that I checked into or the hunt at EL Halcon. I also forgot to say that at EL Halcon I missed a 120 nontypical shot over his back at 300 yrds. Had a big Palmated hand on one side and 3 over 12" long spikes on the other side.I gess Carlos is not Guding anymore.

Carlos is still around, just not on our hunt, the last one of the year. The guides were Wayne, Felipe, Hugo, and Manuelito. Rogelio works full time on the ranch and surprised us all with his uncanny ability to spot deer at obscene distances. Dave
