chance to purchasde a 7mm STW

I have a chance to purchase a Sako 7mm STW to use as a long range hunting rifle. Anythought from experience or ownership about this caliber or rifle would be helpful. Thanks

Sorry for the stupid ? but I am still learning all the popular catridges, what exactly is th 7mm stw?

The round was born by a writer for Shooting Times Magazine and was designed as a long range western rifle so it is the Shooting Times Westerner

I belive it is originaly an 8MM mauser necked down to 7mm

It's an 8mm Rem. Mag. necked down to 7mm. A full length belted H&H case. Very similar ballistics to the 7mm Dakota (a beautiful example of which Grit just posted above.)

IMO, it represents the best balance of a flat shooting, hard hitting, reasonable recoil, easily portable rifle available for American and African plains game.

From what I have read, it is a caliber that can't really be knocked around. Tons of people over the years have used it with great success in knocking down some of the biggest game in North America. If you are getting a good deal on the rifle, I would take advantage of it. IMHO
