Bruno .458 re barrel?

I have a 20 year old Bruno .458WM with single set trigger in original condition. What is your opinion as to the suitability of this firearm to be re barreled into a suitable calibre for long range shooting?

If suitable, what calibre would you suggest?

With out doing any bolt face work these would be my recomendations.

.338 RUM
340 Weatherby
338 Win mag
These are all factory loads.

There are also some wildcats in .338 cal but they require extra effort in reloading
and may require bolt and magazine work.

The .300/338 RUM only requires re sizing and a special set of dies( No fire forming )

Thanks for the advice, I already have a .338 win mag so the other two options sound interesting.
As the .458 has a reasonably heavy profile barrel I would probably stick with the same profile, this would give me a ridgid barrel.

What length barrel would you sugest? I was thinking of a 28" barrel for either the .340 Weatherby or .338 RUM. Would you go for cromemolly or would you opt for stainless?

Stay with the same profile because with the smaller bore the barrel will be stiff and
heaver.

As to the length , 26 to 28" will be enough in a carry gun ( A 28" blank will clean up
at around 27 3/8" and save money.

Also go with the select match stainless barrel ( They are not that much more expensive
and they are lapped making them less prone to fouling )
