At Grafenwohr, which is the Army's main gunnery range in Europe, all sorts of critters feed from the baseline to the target line, while 120mm and 25mm goes off all around. Occassionally, a Red deer or pig is mistaken for a target at night, and is hit by accident, or they are run over by a tank. I would think that this is a case of acclimation gone to ridiculous extremes.
