Remember that Best of the West is the TV show that broke the ice on long range hunting and made it more acceptable to all of us with the hunting public in general. These guys made Berger bullets what they are today and made long range hunting acceptable to the hunting public today. So go easy on them. They deserve a lot of credit for what they have done for our sport.
It don't get no simpler than that!

    With credit also comes blame.
They put their name on the show, so anybody that they show shooting they should be responsible for.
If they have a hunter that isn't sure of a 814yd shot..then they shouldn't let them take it. Let that hunter get some practice first.
I have heard some people say they "got 1 shot kill @ 800yds"...but they fail to mention that it took 6 shots to get it.
Yes, I like long range...but I know my limitations. Maybe I should get more trigger time before I put it on TV.
It's more than just the gun/scope combo that has to be capable.
I'm just saying there are alot of people that bash long shots saying they're not ethical...this is just the ammo they're looking for.

Nothing against the show BOTW, I watch it and enjoy it for the long range hunting aspect. I give credit where credit is due. I was unaware of their involvement in the hunting/shooting industry, until LTLR chimmed in. I watched the episode last night where the guy shot the 814 yard antelope. That guy is Latt Durance, who is the host of BOTW. He stoned that antelope a little far back. When they did the recovery, you can see where he hit in the rear and see him inspect the shoulder as if he hit it. What can you say, **** happens, maybe a bad wind read or something!

So what if he shot it in the ass, he got it right? I don't care how good you are it's always a possibility even at 100 yds.

If they covered it up, I understand why. In a perfect world you'd be able to show it all, the good the bad and the ugly and make your arguments from there but everyone feels the need to put on the mask.

Hell, I aways though antelopes were for practice anyway, kinda like prairie dogs.

Kind of like politics...never admit a mistake or failure and blame your oponents no matter what.

all im saying is if you pay that much for a rifle it better shoot like that. as the gunworks and mcwhorter and mcmillan and all the othere high priced rifles do

there is a reason they are high priced and that is the guarantee that they shoot

I think that is well put. I am a fan of the show and love watching the experts do what they do best. Plus if you have ever met any of the guys from the show, you know how knowledgeable and willing to help they are, not only regarding shooting, but also the pursuit of game. I do think they do the long range hunting community a disservice with their "boom, simple as that" marketing. You occasionally do see crappy shots on that show with guest hunters because lets face it, putting a Huskema on your rig and using their wind reader at your location, isn't going to cut it. With all the intricacies people talk about with equipment and shooting and color of your socks...blah blah blah, we all know that accurate long range shooting is not as simple as they make it out to be. You have to shake your head when they say "John here has never been behind this setup, and made a 1 shot 900 yard kill. That is the simplicity of our BOTW system."
