Personaly I like the 243 win. Any of the "improved" versions of that or the 6mm rem do well also. .243's are easy to find, easy to shoot, easy to get ammo if you desire to go that route and they are very accurate and effective.
Long range shooting is a process that ends with a result. Once you start to focus on the result (where the shot goes, how big the group is, what your buck will score, what your match score is, what place you are in...) then you loose the capacity to focus on the process.
