Yes, I also tried the 30-378. It had potential but just couldnt make magic out of it. Perhaps with a custom version and longer bbl maybee it would have impressed me more. I get almost as much velocity out of my 300 RUM with amazing accuracy. I think the 300 RUM is much more balanced for the 30 cal but if you need the MAXIMUM amount of velocity then go with the 30-378 and a 30+ tube.

Just my .02

Long range shooting is a process that ends with a result. Once you start to focus on the result (how bad your last shot was, how big the group is going to be, what your buck will score, what your match score is, what place you are in...) then you loose the capacity to focus on the process.

ok so with the 300RUM what do you guys think about the savage 116FSS, it seems pretty 'cheap' i have never shot a savage and to be honest am a little afraid that it will be just that CHEAP, i would love to get a great gun for that cost but if i need to i would rather spend a little more now to get something that will last a life time.

Have a look at the Remington SPS they have it in 300 RUM and the cartrige was designed for the Rem action and i have not heard of a Bad 300 RUM from Remington. The SPS is parkarised with a Synthetic Stock. Worth a Look if you are on a Budget. The Savage is just too UGLY for me sorry i dont care how they shoot.

Just checked the remington Web prices and the SPS lists at $520US so a verry competative price.

the savage rifles usually shoot well, even in 300 RUM. I think you would be happy with that rifle.

I can guarantee you that you would not be disapointed with a Savage rifle as long as it isn't a beauty contest.

I completly agree that they are a ugly rifle and the stock on the 16fss is crappy but the guns just plain shoot. A 16fss with a different stock would be a GREAT gun.

My dad recently bought one of the Rem SPS in 300 RUM and it is a damn fine shooting gun. Also has a much better feeling stock on it.

    Just my 2 cents.

Savage! Savage shoots real well, i love the accu trigger ive got two, 11f in 223 great varment rifle, and a 116 (something it stainless and synthetic) 300winmag. The 300 kicks like a mule, the stocks on them are a little on the crappy side. However all the money you spend on it is going into the barrel, action, and trigger. You can buy a new stock fairly cheap thats better or get a good recoil pad. But everyone is right she aint going to win no beuty pagent.
