Best ang finder under $1k

Im wondering what to get for a range finder. I have beed using an older bushnell that doesnt work past 400 yards and a Lecia CRF 1200 when my brother in law lets me use it. The CRF 1200 is a very nice unit, but i wouldnt mind one with an inclometer built in. I really like the CRF but am wondering if there is anything else that has more bang for the buck. how are the Leupold RX-IVs?
Thanks,
Jordan

Re: Best ang finder under $1k

I have owned, the RX-IV, the leica 1200, and two different nikons.

My opinion... Save your money and don't buy the Leupold! not happy with mine at all. Buy the leica, and forget about the range compensating features. A simple printed out cut chart can be placed on a stock if you want. The reality is that there is very little difference with impact points with most hunting shots in the field. If you have a very steep shot, some common sense and reviewing your cut chart at home can get your close enough for a hit at most reasonable hunting distances.

I just know that after owning and using many different range finders, I would not buy anything but the Leica, or Sworovski.

Hope this info helps.

Sorry, I put ange finder but meant range finder. proofed my post but not the title. I sliced a good chunk of meat off my left index finger yesterday so its a bit tricky typing.

I have a horus vision ASLI (same as an ACI) so I can calculate the angle anyway. just thought that it would be a nice feature. thanks for the reply.

I think Zeiss has an angle rangefinder now. You might want to check on that one....Rich

Thanks elkoholic, I've also been loking the Ziess Victory. It seems to be the closest one to the Crf 1200. Anybody have any experience with the Ziess? it says that it reads up to 1300 yards, but is that on trees/reflective targets or on game? I have had the Lieca pick up on deer at 1100 yards, but most other range finders dont do what they claim.

I'm pretty sure you can probably count on the Zeiss to work as advertised if it is as good as their other optics. Let me know if you get one. I'd like to know how you like it......Rich
