BC for fusion 300 win mag 180 grain

I am using a Remington 700 Sendero in 300 win mag with a Leupold 4.5-14 mark 4 for my elk hunt this year. My rifle seems to shoot best using the Federal 180 grain fusions. I am trying to get some dope for that bullet beyond 500 yards. I am having a hard time finding the BC for that bullet. I am not even sure exactly what type of bullet it is. I have seen some places that call it a spitzer but it looks more like a core lokt. Does anyone have any good info on it or some dope to share. I have also tried some handload of 165 gr nosler green tips using 71 grains of H4831 in Hornady brass with less than impressive results. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Good luck. The fusion ammo interested me so I started looking for the same data. Best I can tell they don't publish it anywhere.

It is a monometal bullet, and is I believe a boat tail but I haven't pulled one a part yet to see for sure.

Best advice I could give would be to chrono those loads, then shoot at hundred yard intervals to get your real drop, find a bullett that performs similarly at the same MV that you can get ballistic info on, and plug those numbers into your program and see how close it gets to what you are seeing on paper.

Hey there Ranger, which unit were you in? I was with the 504 PIR, 82nd ABN. Well I have found that when it comes to numbers that round performs very similarly to the Federal 180 grain Trophy Bonded Tip. At least thats what I get when you compare ballistic tables which is nothing more than SWAG until it gets proven on paper. But thats what I am going with. I found a pretty good ballistic application for the droid. Its called Cabellas recon hunt. It has a ballistic table that shows a good variety of calibers and bullets. You can calculate everything out to 1000 yards, as well as make the zero range anything you want it to be. Its only draw back I can see is I do not think it accounts for temperature and elevation correctly. Other than that it does not offer any info on fusion.

JSOC (Joint Force Special Operations Command) was my last PDA. At times we did training for some of your guys for various types of missions.

I wish I could give you better advice but what you are doing already is the best I can offer.

I keep hoping at some point they'll release the data but so far no luck.

If you can't recover a slug just pull one apart and see if it is indeed a boat tail.

That'll help narrow things down for you. Look at other monomental bullets in that same wt class and compare to what you are getting on paper (after chrono) and it should get you very close.

You can adjust the bc in your calculations up/down until you find one that fits your results.

From there you can come up with some reasonable approximations for your 500-1000yds adjustments such that you ought to at least be able to get on paper.

All the way... .

The fusion is a bonded bullet with a boattail. Federal and Speer are both owned by ATK. Look at Speer's website and Deep Curl bullets. It's not the same bullet, made the same but the fusion has a bt and the flat base Speer has a BC of .483.

Speer doesn't want to talk about it. I tried to get info as to how they figured BC on their .25cal 120 grain & I got nowhere.
At a different time I asked about the boat tail Fusion bullets & that was very hush hush.

I have not tested, but I feel the ratings are VEEERY optimistic.

Hey it appears you are correct. I thought from some of the ad hype I'd read it was a monometal bullet.

Quote:
Fusion is available in calibers from .223 to .338 Federal. This specialized deer bullet electrochemically joins pure copper to an extreme pressure-formed core to ensure optimum performance. The result is high terminal energy on impact that radiates lethal shock throughout the target. This energy is optimized through mass weight retention, a top-secret tip-skiving process and superior bullet integrity. Try Fusion Lite for less recoil with full lethality to 200-yards.
I also found this for the "ballistic information"... .

The main info page for all Fusion loads is here.
