Which ballistics program, Sierra ? Hand held help ?

I am looking to buy a ballistics program for my PC to make some drop charts with etc. I also would like to be able to load it into a handheld gadget that a lot of guys are using now, Exbal type, etc. I am just getting back into long range shooting and have 0 experience with any of the hand held programs. I have not run a ballistics program on a computer in over 10 years.

Can someone give me a little education and point me in the right direction on what I will need. I have my .300 Weatherby shooting well and now need to run some ballistics to get an idea of where I will be at longer ranges. Also what is a good handheld computer to buy and what program should I get, any way to only buy one for the home PC and us it for the handheld also.

Thanks,

John

That's easy to answer, and it is a one word answer. Exbal.

The best ballistics soft ware out there IMHO, great customer support. You can purchase it from Nightforce

    Here, SOFTWARE

    Ballistic Software

    I use two softwares.
For reloading I use the Quickload program NECO moly plating bullets, firelapping, ballistic software and chronographs you must conseder that a laoad built with quickload program has on the paper about 100 feet of velocity more than the reality with a cronograph.
For calculating a load that is about 0.5 - 1 grain around the best load for my rifle i use the shoch wave theory Optimal Barrel Time Paper .
The best ballistic one is Exball. The original version of this program is developed by Perry-Systems - Ballistic Calculator Software .
You may calculate the drop very accurately . The same is with Infinity of the Sierra company, but exball is more useful and you may calculate the drop also for your reticle.
    For example:

I use a Sauer Jagdmatch cal 308 with a Svarosky optic with a TDS-4 reticle. The last capriolo ( like a withe deer ) that I dropped down with this rifle, that is NOT a sniper rifle, was at 667 meters ( 700 feet? )

exbal is the most popular, you can buy a package to use it on your PC and palm or PC and PPC. the palm version takes very little memory so any portable running Palm OS and about 16 megs of memory will work fine.
I use a palm Zire and it works fine.

Quickload for load development. Loadbase 2, Exbal V9 and RSI would be worth reviewing as a primary exterior ballistic program. RSI does not offer a handheld program but Exbal and Loadbase 2 do.
