An amazing long range reticle!

Most likely not. But here's what came up with paintshop:

The dashes represent moa markings with every fifth being bold. 15 each way, although I wasn't sure how much space in a scope this would actually take up, more may be possible or less depending on magnification. The dots represent five, 10, and 15 moa markings of windage, and are placed at moa markings in elevation.

I was hoping in a real scope at around 20x these markings wouldn't take up near so much space, so it will be more practical to use in the field. I wouldn't want to try and hold the very top of a scope on an animal and have a very limited field of view. So this is just a template, this was the easiest way for me to make consistent marks on paintshop.

With these markings, here is the approximate distance you can shoot with some popular cartridges sighted in 15 moa high at 100 yards without dialing elevation, although unless there are .5 moa marks it wouldn't be as accurate I'll be using Bergers to keep it simple, except with 338's I'll use Sierras. I'm not 100% on some cartridges capabilities, so there are some guesstimates.

223 with 80 grain Bergers @ 2800 fps- 950ish yards
22-250 with 80 grain Bergers @ 3100 fps- 1150ish yards
243 with 105 grain Bergers @ 2900 fps- 1050ish yards
6mm Ackley with 115 grain Bergers @ 3100 fps- 1150ish yards
25-06 with 115 grain Bergers @ 3100 fps- 1100ish yards
257 STW with 115 grain Bergers @ 3700 fps- 1350ish yards
260 with 140 grain Bergers @ 2800 fps- 1000ish yards
264 STW with 140 grain Bergers @ 3300 fps- 1300ish yards
7mm-08 with 168 grain Bergers @ 2800 fps- 1150ish yards
7mm Rem Mag with 180 grain Bergers @ 2900 fps- 1100ish yards
7mm STW with 180 grain Bergers @ 3150 fps- 1250ish yards
7mm RUM with 180 grain Bergers @ 3300 fps- 1350ish yards
7mm Allen Mag with 180 Bergers at 3600 fps- 1500 yards-WOW!
308 with 185 grain Bergers @ 2600 fps- 900ish yards
30-06 with 185 grain Bergers @ 2800 fps- 1000ish yards
300 Win Mag with 210 grain Bergers @ 2900 fps- 1100ish yards
300 RUM with 210 grain Bergers @ 3200 fps- 1250ish yards
30-378 Weatherby with 210 grain Bergers @ 3400 fps- 1350ish yards
338 Federal with 250 grain SMK's @ 2600 fps- 900ish yards
338 Win Mag with 250 grain SMK's @ 2800 fps- 1000ish yards
338 RUM with 300 grain SMK's @ 2700 fps- 1050ish yards
338 Lapua with 300 grain SMK's @ 2750 fps- 1100ish yards
338 Edge with 300 grain SMK's @ 2850 fps- 1200ish yards
338 Allen Mag with 300 grain SMK's @ 3300 fps- 1400ish yards-WOW!
A fabled 338-50 BMG I've heard about with 300 grain SMK's @ 3900 fps- 1750ish yards-Probably not practical
50 BMG with 750 grain Hornady @ 2650 fps- 1100 yards
50 Allen Mag with 750 grain Hornady @ 2850 fps- 1250 yards

So as you see, I was very bored after I got home from school and had plenty of time for ballistic calculations. I wish someone made a reticle system similar to this.

Update-The NXS 5.5-22x has about a 58 moa FOV, so even when shooting at 100 and your maximum yardage, you still aren't at the extreme top of the scope. For a 4-16x or similar you have a ton of FOV as well. It probably wouldn't work on anything higher than 22x unless you have a scope that somehow has a humongous FOV.

2nd Update-The NXS has that NP-R1 reticle, which is basically what I just made, just more thought out. I think you could still add the windage dots though, and every 5th one in bold.

Tyler if you are coming up with this stuff because you are bored after school, I look forward to the day when someone like Nightforce hires you to make something amazing! Dang kid keep up the brain storming! And remember girls are just a distraction from the important things in life..... like shooting things.

Now that would be a dream job. Currently I'm thinking about becoming a petroleum engineer, but I want to go to Univ. of Missouri, who doesn't have a petroleum engineering program. Dad teaches there so I get a big 'ole discount.

I like the shadow windage holdoffs.....why not a shadow dot for MOA elevation too, perhaps one half way in-between?

edge.
