Re: 7mmRem Mag vs 7mmSTW

Wildrose is right on with his post. I have five STW's and two Remingtons. The remingtons pretty much collect dust. The stw's are extremely accurate, are a pleasure to load for, are not finicky and have won many 1000 yard matches. They are much faster. The STW is the best 7mm out there because it is the largest case you can use in 7mm before you get into a severe barrel burner and deminishing returns as far as velocity. With each caliber you hit a certain size case and beyond that you just don't gain much velocity wise in comparison to the amount of powder you feed it. Also they begin to eat barrels pretty bad. The STW is not bad on barrels and is only 100 fps behind the RUM. I have two RUM's. The STW is where 7mm shoots best so I have five of those.

Re: 7mmRem Mag vs 7mmSTW

After owning the STW, there is no need to even think about a Rem again. No need to look at a 7RUM as there is little advantage there. If I move to something bigger it will be a BIG .300 or .338 like the Lazz or Allen Mags. I will never get rid of my STW though. Most versatile round I have ever owned.

Sako, that's good to hear. I don't have any experience with it but if the barrel shoots, I am really looking forward to using it!

Re: 7mmRem Mag vs 7mmSTW

I have both 7mm mag and 7mm STW.
My 7mm Mag is a Ruger #1 with the laminate stock

I have 2- 7mm STW rifles.
7mm STW Ruger #1 laminate just like the 7mm Mag
I also have a Winchester Model 70 Classic Laredo LRH (Long Range Hunter) in the 7 MM STW

I like them both. They will do the same at 200 yards. If you want to reach out and hit them at greater distances choose the 7MM STW. I own many guns and I love the STW.

Ammo for the STW is harder to find. I bought up 400 rounds of Remington brass
and I load my own so for me no big deal.

Good luck with your choice.

Re: 7mmRem Mag vs 7mmSTW

Sharp Shooter Supply - The Savage Specialists

PAC-NOR Barreling, Inc. - Prefit Barrels

Both are good barrel folks.

Fred at SS Supply is a Savage Specialist. The is a thread on LRH about Douglas barrels. Fred also sell Brux now too.

Have Fred cut you a varmint contour, have it fluted finished at 27" and then add the brake, he does it all.

Most manufactures make Savage Prefits now.

I have a 7Rem Mag, 7STW and a 7RUM. I really like my STW.

Emphasis mine.

Not hard at all these days since Remington has gone whole hog chambering for it again.
