7mm Rem Sendero

I recently purchased a Remington Sendero in 7mm Rem mag. I shot three five shot groups with 140gr Berger VLD's and various powders and the best group meaured 1.5'' @ 100 yrds. The rifle is brand new and has never been fired. I expect much better results. Could the poor initial accuracy be contributed to the rifle not being "broken in" yet? Help!!!

Re: 7mm Rem Sendero

Hi there, try this thread Getting the Best Precision and Accuracy from Berger VLD bullets in Your Rifle

I use 168 berger VLD's and H1000. I seated the projectiles just into the lands and worked up the powder to the velocity I wanted, and got a 0.6 MOA group. I stopped there.

You should be getting better groups than 1.5" at 100 yds. Try the method in the thread above.

Your rifle just might not like 140 VLD's.

Hope this helps,

Stu.

Barrel break-in isn't really for accuracy, it's more for conditioning your barrel to foul less.

Another member here found a high spot in the bedding block of his Sendero and sanded it down which fixed his accuracy problems. I found some stock paint on my bedding block which I scratched off. Look for any irregulariites in your bed. Also, go through the standard checklist. Check scope mount and rings for tightness. Is the problem with your scope. Can you check it against another know good scope? Is your bed clean and dry? Are your action screws properly torqued? Is your crown damaged?

And maybe as mentioned, your rifle doesn't like that load. But I would suspect something else. Most Senderos shoot most loads well, especially good bullets. It might be the seating too.

Re: 7mm Rem Sendero

I bought my Sendero a little over a year ago, and when I shot it for the first couple times I was ready to throw it on the road and drive over it! But after a while of getting a custom to the gun and playing around with some loads, it shoots sub moa all day long. The smallest group I have shot was .4 at 100.
So just take your time and throw rounds down the tube to get comfortable with her.

Re: 7mm Rem Sendero

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going back to the range on Saturday to try her out again. I really didn't check the rifle over much before I fired it the first time because i have the same rifle in 22-250 and it shoots less than 1'' with every bullet I've ever tried in it. I think i was expecting a little too much out of this gun. I also have a browning eclipse in 7mm rem that shoots less than 1" @ 100 yrds. I figure out what this gun likes!
