Re: 7mm rem mag barrel life?????

It is a gradual event. My old 03-A3 Springfield was a magnificent shooter, less than 1 moa. I had the happy circumstance of receiving 13,200 free rounds of military ammo which I used for extended range work and plinking.

Over the years consistency began to wander, until I finally noticed when looking up the bore from the receiver end, that the first six inches or so showed no remaining rifling at all. She was burnt out. At what point it really began to occur with impact on consistency is not clear, but that bore with an estimated 15,000 rounds total was certainly done.

in the army thay use to change our rifle barrel after 10000-15000 rounds. l was a light machine gunner and used a MG-3 before l got swithced to a hunter komado sqwad carrying a G-3 in my hand and a DRAGUNOV sniper on my back pack.

"This rifle had been a solid performer but I lost confidence in it and traded it. Round count was about 12-1300 when I divorced my rifle."

That would have been a perfect time to introduce your rifle to a brand new, high quality barrel!

True, but it was October (deer season cometh!) and the deal was my rifle and $100 boot for a lightly used 700P in 7RM. JohnnyK.

Re: 7mm rem mag barrel life?????

Had a gun smith tell me After 1000 rounds I had to rebarrel my 7mag. Period.
twenty Min later he said dont worry about how many rounds just shoot untill the groups go bad.
Kind of conflicting info!
I have around 1500 through mine It still shoots good(sub moa)
I do know my guage length has grown over .250 since I bought it
Im looking at a new barrel next year but by then Ill be over 2000 rounds
BTW I do not shoot hot loads they are all medium powder charges, Down side is low velocity

When you think your barrel's gone bad, is there any point in having the chamber recut, or are you better off just getting a new barrel? I know you lose a little barrel length when you do this.
