How high did you ever go with the 7828? In the 26" guns we all load for we have found that 88 to 88.5 grains yields the best results and chronographs 3300fps. (Mine does 3330 ave with 88 grains in Weatherby brand brass.) Don't even think about it in Remington brass. Brass life is at 10 shots on Lee Collet neck sized brass and the bolt still drops shut on it's own. To get more I will need to anneal the necks.

For seating length I never go beyond 3.600" with either Partition or Barnes. I used to try that chasing the rifling thing but found it was a bust. Even my non-Weatherby’s shoot well at .150" off the rifling. Did you try any 165 grain Ballistic tips. At 3450 they are simply crazy accurate but I don't need another deer rifle.

Try tightening you action screws up to 45 to 50" pounds. What do your groups look like? That is a lot of shots in a day and two things come to mind. Barrel fouling and shooter fatigue. I wish you lived near by. We would have you shooting moa in no time. For serious accuracy we still go prone on bags to really see what a rifle will do. Those scope base screws need to be man killer tight on a 300 Wby to hold still. Don’t give up yet. I agree with Lerch, It may never run with the customs but it will kill deer and elk to 500 pretty reliably. Beyond that a good custom by the smiths mentioned will remove all doubt about the rifle from the equation.

Making kills on game past that is the stuff my dreams are made of and one needs more than an accurate rifle. No one can do it if the conditions won’t allow it.

the wby is a jap with a 24" barrel, I am not at home now so I cant remember how high I went (they are wrote down at home
I am gone through the weekend fishing so will fill you in when i get back but I am thinkin what learch said the screws has been tightend man killer i say.

I have not did the torqe thing on the windage turrent! even if the knob is loose dosnt the shaft (that the knob tightends down to) stay at the same place? help me on that one, Let me say this I know this is embarresing but many years ago after hunting I put the thing in the case and left it there for a couple of years [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] (got into muzzeloading)
well you guessed it when i pulled it out of case HELLO RUST [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]
and I can see some little pits in between the rifling at the end of the barrel who knows what that is doing to it!
tried sierra,barnes,nosler partitions,noslerBT,berger,
4831, 4350, retumbo,RL-22 the gun hates boat tails,
will that mark V action be worthy of a different barrel?

Thin floated barrel? Chances are it will never shoot without a pressure point!

They have 5 SAKO 75's (Synthetic SS) left in 300 RUM. Mine shoots .292" at 100 and .675" at 300 yards. 200 grain accubond at 3175 fps.
