Re: 338 lapua and 338 edge ammo cost in Australia

Last time I checked a box of decent RUM ammo in 300 or 338 was north of $60.00.

Brass cases are about $1.00 a case for Remington stuff if you look for specials.

Reloading is the only real way to make this a cost effective solution either way. But bang for buck, I still reckon the Edge is the way to go.

Its just the price difference in bullets that's between them. And for what its worth, Id rather hit a Sambar with a 338 accubond than a 300 of any weight.

Lapua brass does costs 3x more than RUM brass but it also last 3-4x as long, so the EDGE really isnt any less expensive than the Lapua.

Re: 338 lapua and 338 edge ammo cost in Australia

I use once fired .338 Lapua Magnum brass in forming my wildcat, and thus far I've gotten 6 reloads on some real hot loads, so yeah the brass lasts longer.

We also have Bertram Brass available from over here, which is just as good and a lot cheaper when you buy it from his shed door. I'm picking some of this up in a few weeks to see how it goes in my wildcat.

So it really depends on what you are looking for. The 338 LM is a STD round so "factory" stuff is available for it over here, the EDGE is a wildcat, as such the dies and such are generally more expensive over here.

If your builder is 100% APRS then you may be stuck with the Edge, but it'd be worth a call to them to see if they would do a .338LM.

Either one will ruin a Sambars day at distance if you hit em right.

Just use a decent bullet on them as the SMK's tend to pencil through unless you trim the nose to expose the hollowpoint. I have to trim the SMK 375's to flatten and expose the nose or they just act like a solid.

Schabdog, the .338 Edge option sounds like the way to go for you mate
Oh I realize it, trust me. I've been there and have some dog clients there. A 750.00 puppy ends up costing them around 5,000.00 by the time we get it to them and they get it out of quarantine.

I came very close to moving to either Oz or NZ at one time but figured out I'd never be able to afford my additions living there.

Hey schwabdog,

Just got a msg, ref APRS rifles, they will still do 338LM.

I say bugger it and build one of them! They have enough components in stock to build a few at the moment.
