308 vs 30-06 and other rounds? WHY is a 308 better?!?

i really like this thread fellas! There is more in depth info here than people simply saying "its an all round great round" or "its the best caliber there is"

i've just been browing some sites looking @ ammo I have seen some ammo that the manufacturers CLAIM to be in the 3200fps range for an 06

With a 125gr you can get pretty close to 3200fps but, with a 168gr I'd be interested in reading about it. Please share url with us.

i dont remember which bullet or manufacturer it was but I was clancing through midway last night, for a guy that works with me and saw one that was like 319X or something like that.

I would think you saw a 125 grain velocity not a 168. In factory loads the 06 is usually 100 fps faster on paper than a 308 is. With handloads the 06 gets a little more separation 3 -400 you are talking 300WM.
