300. wsm capabilities on game like moose and elk?

With the proper bullets, set up, scope and rifle capable of placing a shot where the shooter wants it. What is the max distance the 300. wsm should be use on game like Moose and Elk? how about game like Whitetail and Mule?

thats exactly my guess too. My guess was 800 on deer and smaller, and 500 max on elk and moose

I'd say up to 700 on elk and 1000 on deer with the right handloads. If the alleged threshold for an elk is 1500 ft-lbs, even using Federal's calculator you can go 600+ yards with factory ammo and be over the 1500 mark.

Remember that some of the "long range" guys who have been on TV use a 7mm Rem Mag to go to up to 1000 yards. I've seen a 243 at 700+ drop a cow elk.

i figured it could be done at ranges you mention. I just assumed most people would say 500-600 yards on big game before you max out.

I know of one shooter here who has elk around 1000 yards with his 300 Win Mag. You're not far off from that in power so no reason you have to "assume" anything.

Practice and ability may mean more than your rifle at those ranges. I know it would for me.

It's really up to you load, rifle and personal capability! But if you got everything tuned and you have a good range and dope 800yrds plus should be very doable for elk with a LR hunting bullet. All I need is the bullet going fast enough to open and have enough omph to reach the far side of them. I won't really shoot deer any farther than elk cause the target is thinner and smaller.
