.300 WM, Long Range Velocity
I have a Kimber Montana....
.300WM / 26" Barrel / 210gr VLD's / 3000 FPS
After running the numbers into my ballistic calculator, it shows with this setup my MAX range for game would be around 870 yards. I will be hunting Hogs, Deer, and Black Bear with this rifle. Does this seem right to you guys?
870 yds 1800.5 fps 1511.3 energy -18.1 moa drop
Does anybody have a load that may be able to stretch this out a little farther? If I could Max the effective range of this rifle for taking game to 1000 yards I would be very happy.
Thanks.

Re: .300 WM, Long Range Velocity
3000 FPS muzzle velocity is smokin for a 210 from a 300 win in a 26". I get 2995 froma a heavy load on a 28" Broughton. Congrats on the velocity!
I sent a 210 berger with my rifle and made a complete pass through an elk at 803 last season. Why do you feel you are limited to 870 for deer, hogs and bear?
Plus my numbers for 1000 yards with my rifle are 1805 fps and 1520 ft lbs of energy.

Re: .300 WM, Long Range Velocity
Considering I'm only getting 3150 with a 210 Berger in my 300 RUM I would say you are doing about as good as you're going to get. What powder are you using in your load? You are about 200 fps faster than most standard loads for that bullet and barrel length. The 300 WM usually pushes a 180 bullet about 3000 fps or so.

Re: .300 WM, Long Range Velocity
My load is 208 amax H-1000 vel-2955 with a 24in barrel. No preasure issues at all. You should have no problems out to 1000yrds min.

Re: .300 WM, Long Range Velocity
My buddy loaded these up for me. I will ask him for the recipe and pass it on. The reason I say my max range is 870 is because Im at 1800fps at 870 yards. Thats the minimum expansion velocity. Unless Im screwing up my ballistic calculator.

Re: .300 WM, Long Range Velocity
I think I figured it out, Its my elevation thats screwing me. I live at 0', where I do 99% of my hunting ranges from 700-1700' above sea level. The temperature is usually in the low 40's in the morning and mid 70's in the afternoon, but during the summer has been known to break 100.
